This point-to-point support does not entail a long-term commitment, but can still give an organization a real boost. It may be to support a specific, one-off project, such as a communications or marketing plan, for a predetermined period.
This option may be a good way for you to test the water, without committing yourself, and to make sure a particular task or organization matches your interests. It’s also a way of donating your time only when you are totally available.
You could get involved in a specific project for a set period of time, or offer your time for a set period (e.g. two weeks, three months, one year). It could also be for a specific purpose: to go over a company’s books, evaluate real estate, set up a funding package, formulate a business or communications plan, etc. This type of assistance is quite valuable to these organizations, who will greatly appreciate your involvement, however brief. Besides, you may wish to continue your involvement after your mandate ends!
Offer your services by e-mailing or phoning the directors of an organization to which you are particularly attached. Propose a precise mandate and stipulate the limits of your involvement so as not to create unrealistic expectations.
If you do not yet know where you would like to get involved, offer your services to Bénévoles d’affaires.
