You’ve decided that you’d like to get involved, but you’re not sure to which organization you should devote your time? Why not start with those that you know and love?
At the end of a performance, or a visit to an art gallery, go and meet the artists or cultural workers on site. Generally speaking, we’re too shy (or tired) and don’t dare go and talk to the artists. Especially when they’re surrounded by their friends and family. But artists are always happy to get feedback and hear that you’d like to support their work.
However, it’s often the company’s artistic or general director who needs to meet you the most. If you haven’t found his or her name in your evening program, ask the artists to introduce you!
Don’t forget that by talking to those who created the work, you enter into their universe. Perhaps you could ask them where they got their ideas. Or what other current shows or works they would recommend. Artists are immersed in their world and are often nourished by the work of their colleagues. This is a great way to get personalized recommendations for your cultural outings.
